Rick Moran, President and CEO

With over 30 years of experience in the software industry, Rick Moran has been particularly focused on driving growth in early stage software companies. Prior to System Insights, Mr. Moran worked at TIBCO and led business development for their cloud computing product group – which was created from the acquisition of DataSynapse Inc. While at DataSynapse from 2002 until the acquisition in 2008, Mr. Moran held positions as VP of Sales and SVP of Business Development during years that saw 20x revenue growth in the company.


Prior to DataSynapse, Mr. Moran was founder and CEO of Redpoint Software – an enterprise risk management company he sold to Barra Inc. Before Redpoint, Mr. Moran held executive sales, business development and marketing positions at Stratus Computer and Isis Distributed Systems.

William Sobel, Chief Strategy Officer

William Sobel has over 20 years of industry experience in successful startups managing the development of innovative application infrastructure software products. In recent years, as the principal author and architect of the MTConnect Standard, Mr. Sobel has led the industry toward significant advances in collection and analysis of machine data.


Prior to System Insights, Mr. Sobel was VP/Chief Architect at MSCI-Barra, specializing in financial risk management software for some of the largest asset management companies in the world. Mr. Sobel led a team to architect and build their hosted risk management software as a service (SaaS) platform. In 1995, Mr. Sobel co-founded Redpoint Software, a leading capital markets enterprise risk management software company. At Redpoint, Mr. Sobel architected and built a real-time distributed database caching infrastructure to support fault tolerant parallelized analytics for financial risk management and trading systems.

Dr. Athulan Vijayaraghavan, CTO

Dr. Athulan Vijayaraghavan is a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and brings fresh insight in developing tools to improve the performance of manufacturing processes and systems. Dr. Vijayaraghavan obtained his Ph.D from UC Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering in Manufacturing with a minor in Computer Science.


His doctoral research involved integrating product design with process design for manufacturing high-precision products. While at Berkeley, he was a developer of the MTConnect standard, and built and deployed the first suite of MTConnect-enabled applications in research and industrial environments. Dr. Vijayaraghavan also has extensive practical experience in the operational management of model manufacturing plants.

Barry Kaplan, CIO

Over the last ten years, Barry Kaplan has architected and lead the deployment of numerous high-volume, high availability financial systems based on scalable domain models, high-speed data capture, complex event processing, forward chaining rules engine, and rich data visualization. These technologies and techniques form the foundation of the vimana product, bringing a new level of capabilities to the manufacturing domain.
